Theme of the general debate of the 66th session: "The role of mediation in the settlement of disputes by peaceful means."
How is the theme decided? Traditionally, the President of the General Assembly proposes to Member States an issue of global concern. After their approval, they are invited to comment on the theme during the general debate.
